Every piece begins with an original design developed in-house at our Newquay studio. We transfer it to lino, cut the block by hand and test it on paper before it reaches a finished product.

Every design is drawn in-house at our Newquay studio, transferred to a lino block and carefully cut by hand. We carve away the negative space one mark at a time, leaving the raised image that will hold the ink.

The block is rolled with ink, tested on paper and individually pressed onto fabric or heavyweight stock. Small variations in coverage, texture and registration are part of the process, so no two finished prints are exactly identical.

WHY THE DIFFERENCES?

IMPERFECTION IS PART OF THE PRINT.

Our artwork is designed in-house at Black Fang Apparel in Newquay, rather than bought as stock graphics or sent away to a print factory. Once a drawing is ready, we reverse it, transfer it to a lino block and cut away the negative space by hand with carving tools.

The finished block is rolled with ink and test-printed on paper so we can refine the lines, pressure and coverage. Garments and accessories are then printed individually, dried, heat-set and checked before packing in our Newquay workspace.

Because every block is cut and every impression is pulled by hand, pressure, ink coverage and fabric texture naturally vary. A broken edge or lighter patch is not a fault; it is part of the print. Numbered paper editions are signed in pencil, and when a run ends the block is retired or recut.

Are the prints supposed to vary? +

Yes. Coverage and texture shift slightly with every pull. Major mistakes do not leave the studio; good-looking imperfections do.

Is everything made in Newquay? +

All artwork is drawn and carved here, and every lino item is printed and packed here. Blank garments and specialist embroidered patches come from trusted suppliers.

Will sold-out editions return? +

Numbered art editions do not. Clothing designs may return in a different colour, garment or recut version, but we will not quietly extend a numbered run.

Can I order a custom dog portrait? +

Not yet. Custom portrait slots are planned for occasional limited releases. Join the Dog List to hear when they open.
